Manufacturing and Technical Data Package Review

FIRST ARTICLE INSPECTION (AS9102 GUIDELINE)

It must be recognized that there has been serious escapes with both internally-built hardware and hardware delivered by External Providers; and a stringent First Article Inspection (FAI)/ Product Review (PR) process is one change that is focused on improving your Organization's performance!

AQT attacks FAIs with the following simple methodologies:

Incorporates Three Elements:

  1. External Provider Capability Assessment

  2. Table-Top Review

  3. Test, Qualification & Verification

Note:

•Requires visual inspection at appropriate magnification depending upon given commodities

•All new product/designs require a FAI/PR

•Document objective evidence that all three elements have been completed

•Two FAI/PR Levels:

–Level I – Mission Critical designs, Complex/Critical product

–Level II – All products not deemed Level I, e.g., simple mechanical, electrical, optical

The TWO LEVELS OF FAI/PR are defined as follows:

Level I – The complete FAI/PR is imposed on mission critical designs, new designs of complex/critical product, and/or an established mission-critical complex/critical product that meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • New Part Number

  • Change in manufacturing location

  • Gaps in manufacturing of greater than 12 months

  • Product or Supplier failure history

  • Mission Critical change in the Bill of Material

  • Sub-tier changes

  • Major changes in the design

Level II – This modified FAI/PR is implemented on first pieces of all products not deemed to require a Level 1 First Article Inspection/Product  Review.

–Example:  simple mechanical, electrical and optical parts.

Please contact AQT to discuss details of the process and how our FAI Expertise can be applied to the requirements of your Organization.
